the brief as provided by client, urban splash developers, outlined a project to design of a key fob offered as a corporate gift to their clientele on purchase of a property. I established an approach developing the product as an extension of their existing logotype, however, it was important to embrace 3D aspect in terms of the functional ergonomics of a working object, that is a working key fob and its relationship to the hand, pocket and desk. And importantly, located between each individual context, hand, pocket and desk is found highly different conditions which offer contrasting possibilities in terms of potential gestures to exploit.

I was also interested in the relationship between Product and Architecture and specifically addressing typologies in terms of transposing the gestures found within the promoted corporate identity of urban splash and their professional activities into a framework of logotype and pictogram. I gave myself a phrase to begin the creative process…the humanization of a generic factory as architectural typology. that essentially maps urban splash’s process which transforms of urban workplaces into domestic housing. thus, the reference of the saw tooth roof, thus, furthermore extending the methodology of architectural process applied to product design I explored using an architectural principle of contextualizing and referencing the points of the compass, where, in the conventional practice of placing programme relative to sunpath which generates a unique façade as a reflection of differently configured floor plan. Each façade performs differently in response to a different demand and task. I explored the possibility of humanizing the object through using the motif of the U and hole for locating the ring as an allusion to a face. the extrusion of the U in the material coupled with its movement out of the formal frame allows it to read on the adjacent face. And due to technical issues of ease of removal of a molded piece from tool demanded a void that was a useful and appropriate as the resulting form was micro architecture.
